LenSx® Laser Cataract Surgery

Omni Eye Specialists are proud to offer their patients the LenSx Femtosecond Laser Treatment.

LenSx represents the most advanced technology in laser-assisted cataract surgery.

How it Works and Benefits:

The LenSx Femtosecond laser assists your surgeon on some of the most important segments of the procedure.

Laser Assisted Incisions

Small self-sealing incisions are a necessary part of cataract surgery to give your surgeon access to remove your cloudy lens and insert a new intraocular lens. In traditional cataract surgery all incisions are made with a blade.  In laser cataract surgery each incision is created by a computer-guided femtosecond laser.  Incisions can be adjusted by your doctor based on a real-time 3D image of your eye during surgery.

Creates Capsulotomy

Our eye’s natural lens is housed in a thin, transparent capsule often called the capsular bag.  In order to remove the cloudy lens, your surgeon must create a circular opening in the anterior (front) capsule.  In traditional cataract surgery, the surgeon would use a needle-like instrument to create this opening and remove it with forceps.  In laser cataract surgery the circular opening is performed in seconds by the laser.  Studies show that the accuracy and reproducibility of a laser created capsulotomy to be an improved method versus traditional.

Lens Fragmentation for Easier Cataract Removal

Having the laser break up and segment the cataract lens will allow for less time and ultrasonic energy to remove it.  This can result in reduced inflammation within the eye and improve visual recovery times.  Most patients will see improved vision the day after surgery.

Astigmatism Correction

The LenSx laser has the ability to create Limbal Relaxing Incisions (LRI’s).  LRI’s can greatly reduce or eliminate astigmatism in patients with low to mild cases.  They can also be used to fine-tune a toric lens treatment for patients with moderate to high astigmatism.  Your doctor will determine, if necessary, where to have the laser perform an LRI based on a 3D custom map of your eye.

Summary:

Traditional and laser-assisted cataract surgery are both extremely safe procedures.  Laser-assisted cataract surgery has the advantages of increased precision, greater predictability and customization, and improved outcomes.  The expert surgeons at Omni Eye Specialists are experienced in both methods and will discuss their recommendations during your cataract evaluation.  Please contact our office at (303) 377-2020 with any questions or to set up your evaluation for this life-changing procedure.
